Pentagon Consulting has provided the Australian Department of Defence (ADF), Allied Military Forces and their respective support agencies with engineering services since 1997.

Building on our extensive experience we continue to provide Reliability, Systems, and Safety Engineering services to Defence Agencies in support of their constantly evolving Strategic Defence objectives.

Defence Systems & Safety Engineering

We have extensive experience in undertaking Capability Lifecycle Systems and Safety Analysis and the authoring and development of Defence and Naval Engineering Standards, Specifications & Systems, including Operational and Technical Procedures, Defence Doctrine, and Capability Systems Engineering Management Plans.

We have developed Naval Safety Cases, Defence Safety Cases, Safety Compliance Assessments, and Technical & Operational Engineering Systems using both conventional and Goal Structuring Notation methodologies.

We have undertaken Systems and Safety Engineering work for RAN Major Fleet Units, Naval & Army Aerospace and Aviation Mission Systems, and Defence Materiel, Weapons & Combat Mission Systems.

All Systems and Safety Engineering work are developed in accordance with the requirements of NATO Engineering Publications, such as ANEP77, Allied and Australian Defence Standards, and Commonwealth, Allied and Defence Regulatory requirements.

Naval Seaworthiness Engineering

Pentagon was instrumental in the development and implementation of the Royal Australian Navy’s ‘Seaworthiness Management System’ and the establishment of Surface Force Seaworthiness Assurance Accountabilities, Business Rules, Processes and Performance Measures.

Additionally, we undertook the quantitative analysis of significant occurrences, defects (Priority 1 & 2 URDEF), Fleet Technical Assessments, Material Condition Assessments, and emergent trends relevant to the integrity of Naval Mission Systems. We then developed technical and operational risk mitigation strategies to ensure the Seaworthiness of the relevant Mission Systems.

Aerospace & Aviation Systems & Safety Engineering

We have extensive reliability, systems, and safety engineering experience undertaking Aerospace and Naval Aviation Engineering Projects for the ADF. Our experience extends throughout the Aviation Capability System Life Cycle, from program management, engineering, integrated logistic support, configuration management, verification and validation through to project management and warehousing.

Pentagon can provide Engineering Assessment and assurance that ADF Aerospace and Aviation Mission Systems meet the requirements of NATO Engineering Publications, DEFAUST-5000, Ship Helicopter Operations Manual ABR-5419, Navy Technical Regulations ABR-6492, Seaworthiness Board, Navy Safety Systems ABR-6303, and STANAG-7183 Minimum Crash, Fire Fighting & Rescue Equipment Standards for Aviation Capable Vessels.

Weapon Systems Engineering

Pentagon were the principal Reliability, Systems and Safety Engineering consultants engaged by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) for the rapid acquisition, installation and commissioning of an asymmetric threat Complex Reactive Real-Time Weapon System. Our role included management of the structural alterations associated with fitting the Weapon System to Navy FFGs. Additionally, we developed the Naval Safety Case, Engineering specifications, and undertook the development of the RAM program for the Mini Typhoon Weapon System.

Reliability Engineering

Pentagon is able to advise the ADF on the reliability engineering and systems safety implications of proposed modifications and configuration baseline changes to ADF materiel, weapon systems, plant, equipment and operating regimes and any associated system platforms and interfaces. We can undertake time to event analysis for complex engineering and mission systems and determine preventative and predictive maintenance schedules.
